BYG602 Experimental techniques and materials in civil engineeringUniversity of AgderContents The course focuses on experimental characterization of material properties. The type of material chosen and properties tested depends on the candidate’s PhD research topic and is rather wide, although limited by the type of available laboratory equipment. Examples of earlier covered materials and techniques include abrasion resistance testing for road aggregates, fracture toughness testing and use of optical strain measurements for metals, fresh concrete properties testing, testing of mechanical properties of 3D printed metals. The experimental work might also include non-destructive testing of structures, harden concrete properties, use of optical measurements for concrete crack detection, application of concrete 3D-printing techniques, testing and experimental characterization of drinking water and wastewater properties, characterization of pavement materials etc. depending on the PhD-candidate research topic. Learning outcomes After the course is completed, the candidates shall gain a practical knowledge of experimental techniques relevant for the candidates’ own PhD-work as well as an overview of materials and techniques used by fellow candidates. The candidate shall learn to plan and execute experiments and collect field data. |
