Contents: This course aims at providing the participants with a basic understanding of econometrics and econometric tools to allow the participants to conduct the appropriate statistical analysis given the research question and available data. The participants will understand both the possibilities and limitations of each statistical tool presented, and the appropriate methods to conduct a thorough and robust statistical analysis. Topics taught include basic statistic operations such as descriptive statistics, how to report statistical results, statistical tools such as ordinary least squares (OLS), count models and limited dependent variable models. In addition, a section of the course focuses specifically on quantitative methods in small datasets (commonly less than 50 observations) where the standard regression methods are insufficient. The course primarily revolves around cross-sectional data with some elements of panel data estimation. Each session consist of a period of lectures with numerous short and longer exercises relevant to the specific method taught in the session. |
